Structure Literacy

Explicitly teaches systematic word identification and decoding strategies, which are vital tools for those with dyslexia. The elements that make up Structure Literacy work together, and they are:

• Phonology – Study of sound structure of spoken words
• Sound-Symbol Association – Matching sounds to letters, and vice versa
• Syllables – Dividing words into syllables helps readers associate vowel spellings with vowel sounds
• Morphology – Study of base elements (smallest unit of word) helps reader decode meanings of complex words
• Syntax – Set of rules that dictate sequence and function of words in a sentence; also called language mechanics
• Semantics – Concerned with meaning and comprehension of written language
