Everywhere you turn, hundreds of synthetic chemicals–also known as fragrances–fill the air. Look around your house and most likely you will find a bottle of perfume, baby lotion, deodorant, air freshener and detergent. From the bathroom to the laundry room, these artificial products are infiltrating your home and harming your health.
Recent studies have shown that more than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances come from petrochemicals including: benzene derivatives, aldehydes, and phthalates, to name a few.
For years manufacturers have been hiding these detrimental chemicals with a simple label, fragrance. Something that is so easily overlooked has been shown to increase the risk of cancer, birth defects, migraines, asthma attacks and allergies.
In this age in time, many of us are shifting how we eat, focusing on more healthy, clean and organic foods. At the same time, we don’t stop to think about the non-edible products that come home with us from the store.
So, the next time you are in need of a household or beauty product, do your research before buying your favorite artificial-peach shampoo or lotion. Because we know real peaches really don’t smell like that. Take an extra minute or two out of your day and educate yourself about the chemicals to avoid a potential life-threatening illness.
