While a pop of sparkle is hardly groundbreaking for holiday makeup, it’s a staple for a reason.
Why don’t we change our perspective a bit and consider sparkle and glitter in a new way. This is our trending topic at Art Institute of Makeup. How can we reinvent the tried-and-true holiday look? We have some ideas!
Consider blending makeup trends together for a uniquely-you holiday fusion. Metal smoke velvet crème shadow + 60’s glam is smolder meets groovy. Remember to add false eyelashes to your bottom lash line for that classic supermodel gaze. Twiggy, English model uber famous during the swinging 60’s in London, is our inspo for this look! Want to intensify the attraction to your eyes? Add tiny embellishments to the space under your eyes. The flash of the gems will add a multidimensional mystery to your allure.
At Art Institute of Makeup, division of New Age Spa Institute, our students love the versatility and quality of INGLOT Cosmetics. A favorite among our certified professional makeup artists is the Inglot gel liner. All the colors you can imagine, plus you can trust them to stay put and not smudge! Not many cosmetic lines can make such claims. Try it for yourself! You’ll find it boring to go back to your basic black line pencil.
Whether you’re interested in metallic colors or liquid glitter cosmetics, there are plenty of ways to incorporate these trends with a subtle, classic hand.
For an understated take on the metal smoke trend, try using a metallic eye shadow as an accent in the outer corner eyes and/or inner eye corners. We love how bronze and gold metals compliment varied eye colors. Universally flattering to be sure!
If you want to go full-on glam, then you’ll need some glitter in your life. In our makeup classes, our chosen go-to way to level up our look is to always glitterize. Though some are of the ideology that there is no such thing as too much glitter, we recommend starting small. Begin with a thin line along the upper lash line, and then build up the intensity until you achieve your desired look.
Want our best tip for the freshest festive makeup? Hydrate your skin! Especially with the dryness of Midwest winter, the Chicago and the surrounding Chicagoland suburb areas are in for dehydrated, flaky skin without the proper skincare. Tone, moisturize, and prime before applying foundation. Moisture is crucial for an even canvas that helps your distinctive artistry shine through.
Our makeup-artists-in-training learn the basic concepts of skin type and choosing the best moisturizer and primer for clients. For instance, Inglot’s HD Primer in yellow is used to neutralize skin redness and purple discolorations. Custom consultation and then actualization of face chart concepts are part of the hands-on lesson plans.
