Every esthetician’s journey begins with a why. At New Age Spa Institute, our students and graduates come from all walks of life—career changers, creatives, parents, healers, and dreamers—each with a unique reason for choosing an education in esthetics.
The My Why blog series highlights these real stories, sharing what inspired our esthetics students and massage students to pursue a career in the beauty and wellness industry, how esthetics school and massage school changed their path, and where they’re headed next.
If you haven’t yet, be sure to explore some of our other inspiring journeys, including massage graduate Magda’s and esthetician graduate Julissa’s stories—each one a powerful reminder that there’s no single path to becoming an esthetician.
Now, let’s hear from, part-time evening esthetics student, Ewelina in her own words. She shares how she balanced motherhood, creativity, and a growing passion for skincare at New Age Spa Institute.
From Motherhood to Meaning—My Journey Into Esthetics
Finding Myself Again Through Esthetics School

My name is Ewelina. I’m 33 years old, live in La Grange, and commute to New Age Spa Institute for the part-time evening esthetics program. I’m incredibly grateful for the flexible class schedule, which allows me to pursue a career in esthetics while supporting my family’s needs.
I’m a stay-at-home mom to two beautiful boys under the age of five. While motherhood is deeply rewarding, I reached a point where I felt I had lost touch with who I was before becoming a mom. Like many women, my focus shifted entirely to caring for others, leaving little room for my own growth and self-care.
Esthetics became the path that helped me reconnect with myself.
From Fashion to Facials
Before having children, I worked in the fashion industry. I earned a Fashion Business degree from Columbia College Chicago and spent years as a wardrobe stylist in luxury women’s boutiques throughout the city. I loved helping women feel confident, stylish, and empowered. Fashion taught me that when you feel good about how you look, it changes how you show up in the world—a belief that naturally led me toward skincare and esthetics.
Her Personal Skincare Journey That Sparked a Career

My passion for skincare began with my own challenges. In my younger years, I struggled with severe acne and experienced firsthand how much skin health affects confidence. Later, pregnancy and postpartum brought new skin concerns, including hormonal changes and hyperpigmentation. Monthly facials became my time to reset, learn, and heal.
Seeing real results—and feeling genuinely cared for—inspired me to pursue a career as an esthetician so I could offer that same experience to others.
Uniting Wellness, Education, and Purpose
As my skincare knowledge grew, so did my interest in overall wellness. I became more mindful of ingredients, nutrition, hydration, and the products I used on myself and my children. This holistic approach to beauty confirmed that the beauty and wellness industry was exactly where I belonged. Choosing to attend New Age Spa Institute, a CIDESCO-accredited esthetics school, gave me the education, structure, and confidence to take this passion seriously.
Falling in Love With Facial Massage and Client Care
One of my favorite parts of esthetics training is facial massage. It’s incredibly relaxing for clients and offers real benefits like increased circulation and lymphatic drainage. I personally saw amazing results postpartum, and client feedback during student clinic nights has been so rewarding.
Helping clients release tension and leave feeling relaxed and glowing is one of the most fulfilling parts of my esthetics journey so far.
Creativity, Makeup, and the Future

Along the way, I’ve also rediscovered my love for makeup artistry and lash extensions, blending my creative side with technical skill. With my background in fashion, I plan to continue networking and working on photoshoots and fashion events. Long-term, my goal is to become an entrepreneur and open my own esthetics studio—starting with a home-based space that balances family life and business ownership.
My vision is to create a brand rooted in women’s empowerment, self-care, and confidence, where clients feel calm, inspired, and truly seen.
Through continued education and evolving trends in esthetics, I know I’m building a lifelong career that supports both my family and my purpose.
