Today, we’re proud to share the story of Olivia, a student whose path proves that sometimes the right direction isn’t the most expected one—it’s the one that truly feels like you.
A Passion That Never Left
Olivia always knew her future would involve skincare—but like many driven students, she initially pursued a more traditional medical path.
After graduating from DePaul University with a degree in Health Sciences, she began working as a medical assistant in a dermatology office while applying to graduate programs to become a nurse practitioner.
But something didn’t feel quite right.
“I realized that the practitioner role didn’t fully align with my passions,” Olivia shares. “I wanted to work with my hands and directly help people, not just diagnose and prescribe.”
That moment of clarity changed everything. Olivia made the bold decision to step away from an accelerated NP program and fully commit to esthetics—a choice rooted in passion, not pressure.
Fully Immersed in the Journey
Now based in Des Plaines, Olivia has been able to dedicate herself completely to her education at the New Age Spa Institute.
Outside of class, her time is intentionally spent growing—whether that’s exploring her creativity, diving into hobbies, or staying connected with family and friends. It’s this balance that keeps her grounded while she builds her future.
Discovering Her Strengths
Through hands-on training, Olivia quickly found her rhythm in treatment rooms.
Her favorite services to perform include:

“I really enjoy working with machines during facials,” she explains.
But esthetics had a few surprises in store. Olivia also discovered a love for eyelash extensions and brow shaping, proving her versatility and attention to detail.
What makes Olivia’s journey even more unique is how naturally her passions connect. Her steady hand and attention to detail—essential in esthetics—are skills she’s honed through sewing and crafting. Her creativity shines through baking and fashion, while her adventurous spirit fuels her love for travel and discovering new places around the city.
It’s clear that for Olivia, esthetics isn’t just a career—it’s an extension of who she already is.
When it comes to being on the receiving end?

A Vision for the Future
Olivia’s goals are as focused as they are ambitious. After becoming licensed, she plans to work in a medical spa environment, offering advanced treatments and potentially collaborating with dermatologists or plastic surgeons.
She also has an entrepreneurial spirit—hoping to offer brow and lash services independently during evenings or weekends. Looking ahead, she’s interested in expanding her skills even further by training in manual lymphatic drainage massage and possibly returning to school to become a registered nurse.
Her long-term vision?
Opening her own medispa and working alongside a small team of passionate estheticians.
