IDFPR Rules Have Temporarily Changed (And We’ve Got You Covered)
BIG NEWS: Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) now allows licensed professionals to complete 100% of their CE hours via ANY format—in-person, video, audio, online, or even written correspondence.**This variance is TEMPORARY, granted while the state works to make it permanent.
3 Things You Need for License Renewal in IL:
- Cosmetologists: 14 CEU hours total; Estheticians: 10 CEU hours total
- 1 hour Domestic Violence CEU *for both cosmetologists and estheticians once per lifetime per each license
- 1 hour Sexual Harassment Prevention CEU (available on our site for just $19.99) *for both cosmetologists and estheticians each renewal time

License Renewal Happens in Odd-Numbered Years—That’s This Year!
If you’re a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist in Illinois, your license renewal deadline is September 30, 2025. Don’t wait until the last minute.
4 Pro Tips for Smooth Esthetics or Cosmetology License Renewal in Illinois:
- Visit the IDFPR renewal portal to submit your application.
- Have your license number, CEU certificates, and Sexual Harassment Prevention course confirmation ready.
- Keep a notebook and pen nearby to jot down any confirmation or tracking numbers.
- Double-check your totals—CEUs must meet the full CEU-hour requirement plus required state training. Be ethical and professional— Don’t renew your license without completing your classes.
Remember: Illinois cosmetologists are mandated to complete 14 continuing education hours. Illinois estheticians must are required to complete 10 continuing education hours. Illinois cosmetology instructors must complete 20 continuing education hours. Illinois esthetics instructors must complete 24 continuing education hours.
